Well, I will say from what I have read about eradiciation efforts in the past, not even one of whatever is being eradicated can be allowed to remain alive. All have to be killed to have a sucessful program. Examples include Foot & Mouth Disease, Med Fly, Screw Worms and of course, the Boll Weevil. As for the Foot & Mouth Disease, that was eradicated in the 1930s in this country. And I remember something about the US helping other countries south of the border in wiping out the FMD clear to the Panama Canal. It has been reported that there have not been any FMD cases in the USA since then. The Screw Worm Program here seemed to have been fairly successful for quite a few years. I sure do hope that the Boll Weevil program is also just as successful in the coming years. The Boll Weevil has been in Texas since 1892, it is past time that those critters be wiped out for good. Mexico's got a Boll Weevil program also from what I have read somewhere. The Texas Program has a website, it is www.txbollweevil.org. Looks the news on the site is a bit dated, but more recent stuff for some areas has been posted there lately.
