Columbia City, Indiana | I called a fairly local sale barn owner yesterday to see what he could get for a few black and black baldy calves weighing in the 850 range. He said he could only get .90 maybe, and that was if they were not very fleshy. I thought that was really low. I was thinking I might get rid of a few that way that I had planned to sell for freezer beef with corn high and cattle high right now. I've been reading about 1.10 fats. This particular sale barn used to have what I would call an excellent beef reputation. It's one of two that are fairly local, people had often told me one was more geared towards dairy and the one I called was more geared towards beef, but some beef guys have been saying not to go to the guy I called. Had about 3 guys tell me that in the last 5 or so months. I was just curious what he could get for them. Don't think I'll be taking him any. Part of the problem might be that I only want to sell 5 or so. | |
