Subject: Sorry corn!

NW Tennessee
I've got some corn that was planted on the 3/26 & 27 and survived the Easter freeze. According to my landlord that lives on the farm, it got less than .5" from two different showers the month of May and I don't think we got any rain the last two weeks of April. Anyway, it's looked bad for some time. We finally got .8"-.9" last Friday. We haven't had enough rain before that to get the N into the root zone, so the corn has been yellow and the height very erratic. I was hoping the rain would give it a boost and it would start taking up some N. But, I think, even if it does, it's going to be too late. It's anywhere from 3' to 5' tall, and today the taller corn is starting to tassel so I figure it all will shortly. If it does make much of any ear at all, we won't be able to let it dry down, because there sure isn't much stalk to support it. Right now, it looks to be the worst corn we've ever had.
