Subject: Re: You guys have musk thistle?

Western Nebraska
We have musk thistle, but we also have a little worm that infects the head and feeds on the seed. It is one of the few success stories that the proponents of bio-controls can point to. The plant will still grow and it will push up a head and even bloom, however when it comes time to release the seed there isn't hardly any left. When you pull open the head and look inside it is usually full of little white worms. We have gotten to the point where we leave the musk thistle so that the little guys have something to feed on.

Unfortunately Canada thistle doesn't have any bio-control and it is a pretty severe problem in our native pastures.
