I know of guys doing this in SW Nebraska, or atleast they were a few years ago in the blow sand. You could dig up a plant and actually see how the roots had favored the trench where the moisture was. They were doing this when the corn was only a foot tall or so-called "inter-row ripping" around here. All I know, is you better have the pivot chasing the ripper cuz the corn will curl up fast behind that rig.
