For me in my 30 inch row situation, I could not plant beans first and then come in and ditch for the water with out covering up the beans I had planted. Maybe I hill to deep or drive to crooked.

I have seen people here take a field, disc, come in and hill it. Then come in with the planter and plant on top of the hill. All in 30 inch rows.
I would have thought the dirt would be too loose for it to work properly. I have not talked to those who do it or seen the operation in action.
They do this in the fall and let it set for the winter. Maybe that helps firm up the soil. ??

I know it would be a lot of work, but can up just take the width of your planter and work up part of the field that wide. Then come in and hill that part and then come in with the planter and see if it would work. Would to much of the soil get pushed back down during planting and not leaving a good ditch to water down ??
