north central Oklahoma | I run Martin trash whippers just barely touching the ground, don't try to move any dirt, just sweep any big wads away if it happens, but again, like I said, that is where a good chopper really pays for itself. I will at some point in time put a set of chains behind the closing wheels or get a set of star closers. My biggest problems in the past has been baking of the seed slot in June on those hot days if I plant into some ground that was a bit damper than ideal. That little double hump can bake like a rock and a bean won't puch through it. I may end up pulling someting right behind the combine this year as we are presently fighting too much rain at the time. My fallow master closes tracks as well as any disk ever and leaves way more cover and doesn't invert the soil to dry it out so much. YMMV but no-till DC beans work best here, especially for the time saved and more timely planting afforded. | |
