There's no substitute for hog manure; I assume it was from a deep-pitted finisher w/ N levels ~ 40 lbs per 1000 and injected last fall? We apply a lot of manure ahead of corn around here with no additinal fertilizer and these fields always grow faster, are greener and hang on better in dry conditions. You're on the right track with availability....the organic portion is especially more available and used more efficiently by the plant than commercial. There's an 80 acre field I drive by everyday doing chores that had manure applied last fall; it was planted April 22nd and is a foot taller than most "conventional" corn planted 4-5 days earlier (and closer to black than green!!!). How is most manure applied in you're area, drag-line or tanks?
