Alton, Ia | WE do not apply any manure, (will be next year). I have noticed our neighbor's (with manure) fields seem to be greener in the spring. I am wondering if it's because hog manure is typically only worked in a few inches, maybe 4, whereas NH3 is 6-8" deep, and it takes more time for the corn plant to get roots to the NH3. The extension and co-op guys tell me early crop access to N is not a significant factor in yields, as long as we aren't deficient, but at the same time we hear manured soils yield better, so I am wondering if it does matter.
