Subject: RE: So what was so bad about that rotation

I tried the 2,4-D route last year and it didn't work well as the application has to be made early for crop safety and many of the RR marestail don't emerge until soybean planting time. I even tried some 2,4-DB in crop and the marestail laughed at that. I only bale a little straw and never on the sandy ground but there is just no substitute for corn residue. The nutrient and herbicide rotation helps too. I've got ground that hasn't been rotated regularly producing 25 bu/ac beans when nearby better ground which has been regularly rotated to corn produces 50 bu/ac. There is an inherent difference in the soils but I need to narrow the yield gap.
