Hoisington, KS | My brother lives about 16 miles west of me and he said the wind was terrible there, but I never heard a thing except rain. More wheat is going down with every rain, especially the Overly, boy I'm glad I don't have any of that this year. Yeah, our oats look terrible too. Had a call from a guy around WaKeeney this morning and he was complaining about how he can't get anything done. Last summer that was the driest place in the state. I can't remember a time in the last 20 years when you can go out in the middle of the afternoon and check cows and the creeks are running over, every pond is running over, there are seepage spots everywhere, and musk thistle 6 ft. tall. Last year at this time we were hauling or pumping water in every pasture as the springs dried up. | |
