As others have said, much easier to lay out and much cheaper than buying aluminum or pvc gated pipe. Plus, you can run over it when it's flat if necessary. We used to try and reuse it, but was more trouble than it was worth. We just roll it up at the end of the year and take to recycling center at a local elevator. Have several miles of gated aluminum and pvc pipe I haven't used in years if someone is interested!
As Les said, it won't move water very far uphill, but will move it very effectively across relatively level ground.
