North central, IA | I have said it before and I will say it again - stop worrying about your boots and start worrying about your socks. Buy the closest thing to 100% wool socks you can find. Most modern ones have some spandex or gore-tex or some other man-made fiber, which is fine but the wool is the important ingredient. When my kids were smaller and we used to engage in outdoor winter-time activities as a family I learned to remind them before we went out to wear wool socks. The reminder usually took this form "If you are wearing wool socks and your feet get cold you can complain all you want and blame me. If you aren't wearing wool socks and your feet get cold don't bother opening your mouth to whine because I will not listen." Yes, I am heartless, cruel, and insensitive. And yes they usually wore wool socks. And no they did not complain because with wool socks their feet did not get cold. | |
