Subject: Re: Has anyone here ever adopted?

Ilderton, Ontario
We started by fostering and this led us to adoption. Our lives have been blessed with a few different children and we currently have one adopted and one biological child, and real nice relations with a few foster children we were fortunate enough to share our home with. I would suggest by starting with fostering. While I don't always agree with some of the policies of our CAS (Children's Aid Society), they are very supportive. We can still get help or be part of support groups even 8 years after completing our adoption. Public adoptions here in Ontario cost the families nothing (financially), but can be quite draining emotionally.

The most important thing to keep in mind during any of these processes is that you are the adult and you need to provide support to the child, no matter the circumstance. These process can be very straining on family and other relations, but it is nothing to what the child may have experienced had you not been a part if his/her life.
