Subject: Re: Poly Pipe Irrigation....Why?

Wheatley, Arkansas
Poly-pipe is a 7-10 mil thick 1/4 mile long roll of 10-12-15-18" flexible plastic tubing. Poly-pipe is generally laid out in the spring after all tillage and fertilizing have been done. Most poly-pipe is used one season then re-cycled .The advantages poly has over aluminum pipe are speed of lay-out, two to three men can lay out approx. 5 miles of poly in a good day. A good operator can roll or pick up about the same amount in the fall after you are finished with it. Poly is priced around 14-18 cents per foot,{ about what interest would be on aluminum? }, with poly you punch a hole in it where ever the middle of the row is, aluminum you hope the outlets line up with the rows. Poly is normally hooked to the water source via a riser bonnet or a section of plastic pipe. The advantage aluminum has over poly is the ability to push water up hill, poly will not push much more than 3-4 tenths of a foot before rupturing. Have some pics to follow.
