Bardstown,KY | The only reason I ended up using the fertilizer this year was we went to using capture (insecticide) and with this system we decided to give the fertilizer a try . I left check stips in some of our fields and you can tell right to the row where it was turned off, the corn is bigger , greener , and is more consistent as far as stand and plant height. The stand and consistent plant hight I relate to the capture , where no capture was ran we have stalks missing and the there is the stalks that are a 1/3 the size that must have been damaged by insects early on. One of the capture reps came out and did stand counts and came up with 2000 less plants where we turned the capture off,I didn't count but there must be half that many or more that are there and are so set back from early damage that I would consider them a weed , so 3000 plants per acer is the number i'm going to say we saved with the capture at a 3.4 oz rate.
I planted a little over 1500ac of corn and ran fertilizer on most all of it and never had the first problem with any of the equipment I got from FMC. If you can use enough capture they will supply you with the equipment free of charge but you do have to use there product to get a unlock code for the monitor every year. The combine will decide if I use fertilizer anymore because I think the price is a little high for 5gal of 7-24-4 at $2.58 gal. But I will be using the insecticide on all my acers next year. Now you have to take in account this is only one years observation so it is subject to change. | |
