Subject: RE: Hay yields in Ohio?

Marysville/Sunbury, Ohio
Hasn't been a lot put down around here, maybe 1/3-1/2 the growers put part of 1st cutting down (some with rain). The last week has been pretty typical weather; restricting a lot of action, a quick rain in one spot, none in the other. We need rain, but it puts a damper on putting dry hay in the barn, we will probably make the jump this week if things stay decent.

As for yields, stands are not anything like they normally are. Pure alfalfa is the worst, 12-16 inches tall in some fields (but good quality as mentioned). Mixed stands are all over the board with the grass portions doing better than the legume. Fields that have naturally reverted to all grass are doing the best, expect near normal yields there. Time will tell, hopefully we will see later this week.
