I agree that no till will work anywhere one makes a determination to make it work.

The situation arises tho in some areas, balancing the agronomic benefits with the economic benefits.

No tilling corn "here", would take a tremendous economic hit. We are capable of 200 bu corn in conventional/min till. Anything the get some bare dirt to plant in. To do a "true" no till regime, maturity of the hybrids planted would have to be shortened to accommodate the later planting date that no till would require.

We average about 10 days from "ice out" of the area lakes to putting corn into the ground. Just wouldn't be economically feasible with laying out close to or over $4K for an acre of ground and only pull off 120 bu/acre or so when ONE trip over the field will allow you to pull off close to 200 ( if mother nature gives you correct conditions the remaining part of the year).

That approx $250/acre makes for a real fast ROI on a piece of equipment.

Too many IMO do not blend the economic and agronomic to achieve the best of both that is possible.

Kind of like an equipment salesman that will sell you a piece of equipment that isn't just quite designed for the conditions you have, but works great in other areas. Just come out with new updates that you have to buy to keep changing everything over year after year after year. And then add injury to insult, you can buy a brand new one with all the updates for the same price you spent on one that doesn't work without more investment.
