We have notilled corn after wheat-double crop with good results. NH3 knifed in preplant, thin knives-no mole knives for no till.

double-crop corn into wheat stubble
I think the problem is when you try to kill growing wheat and plant into it.  My experience has been when folks try to do that the corn doesn't do as well as it should.

I no-tilled corn into wheat stubble a couple years ago and it worked OK.  I won't say great, just OK, because I took a substantial yield hit compared to the nearby conventional tilled field planted same day with same planter.  But I don't know how much is just differences in the soil and fertility.

Here are a few photos from my experience at it.  These were taken to show plant injury.  The culprit?  Deer walked on it.  But it shows the residue we had to work with. I let the weeds grow, sprayed once with glyphosate, sprayed herbicide on it in the fall, and planted corn in the spring.
