I've had a nitrate one for quite a few years. Like any electrode, it's not as accurate right at the bottom end as some lab techniques but there's no question you can follow any concentrations in the soil.
Most fieldwork isn't looking so much for an exact number. So often you don't dry and grind, you do a rough 1 part soil to 1 part distilled water and see what you have.
