We have found the same results as Phil. Only problem we have had is wet weather the straw keeps the ground cooler longer.

If you are looking to build organic matter, corn stalks have worked the best here, going from 1.2% to 4.0% organic in three years continuous corn. Wheat straw is good for a short while, then it is gone.

We have notilled corn after wheat-double crop with good results. NH3 knifed in preplant, thin knives-no mole knives for no till.
