There is a local church that has a sign out that they collect old cell phones for recycling. 

I have not checked into it, but I presume they have found an outlet - maybe they make a few $$ off it,??? I don't know.

If there is no recycling in your area, maybe your church or civic group would want to look into starting a similar program.  Just sayin'......
