Subject: Skip Pass balances implement load

Sunnyvale, CA
In addition to having a larger radius turn at the ends skip pass has another benefit. When working a new field, the first pass is over unworked ground. If the second pass is the next row, the implement is slightly unbalanced and pulls a little more to the "new ground" side because the worked ground adjacent to the last pass has slightly less resistance to the implement, and the lever arm is at worst case. By skipping a pass the first time through a field, the implement sees a balanced load and tracks a bit more "true" behind the tractor. On the return passes, when working the rows with worked ground on either side, then the implement again sees a balanced load and tracks true. When you are using RTK, with a towed implement this is a way to get a little extra accuracy in implement location and not have to use active implement steering with a second RTK receiver on the implement. Of course on hilly ground, this skip pass technique is not going to work as well as active implement steering to keep the tractor and implement where you want them.
