Subject: Pickup price per mile (personal vehicle for business use or vice versa)

What is a pickup worth on a per mile basis? What costs should be covered (ownership/operation vs vs total/combination)?

Fuel cost and all maintenance is covered by the owner.
15% of miles towing.
Vehicle is 4wd but rarely used.
Highway, city and off-road miles. (50%, 5%, 45% respectively) Breakdown depends on your definition of each. Including gravel in off road. Those numbers could vary significantly depending on definition.

What does your business do? How do you break it down?

In our situation, owning 2 vehicles to have one sit 8 months a year does not make much sense. Insurance, tags, depreciation etc. Considering returning to that for accounting purposes though. It really is the only 'fair' way to go about it.

Other option is to put the vehicles in their own LLC, much like the trucks, but then we would have to pay the LLC. Twice. Once for personal and once for business. That will still leave us in the same predicament. However you could split total cost per year by miles and personal and business pay in a percentage. But business miles are harder than personal over all, so would that be fair?

Anyone here see what I am getting at? What do you do?

Email works if you do not want to discuss it here. Any and all thoughts are appreciated.
