No, this is part of the misconception. In the end, there is no such thing as "the company". Companies are fictional entities that are owned by PEOPLE. Anything that damages a company such as taking a "hit" like this harms the PEOPLE who are the owners of that company.
Likewise, the government doesn't pay for anything. WE PAY.
