Around here, MN, the township is one of the last defences farmers have. The state, county, & city/town governments are all about expanding city/ urban agendas. The township board is about all farmers have working - and cheaply - for them. They are not perfect & yes another level of government, but about the only one localy driven & that listens to individuals somewhat.

As others say, township is about the last part of government to get rid of around here.
