Subject: Re: ? for school bus drivers

SE IL

Sprocket: "I have driven through a town several times recently on a highway with three lanes. North, south and a 3rd lane in the middle that is a turning lane. I have never seen a school bus pick up or let off a kid who would have to walk across the turning lane and opposing lane. My question is: Are drivers in the oncoming lane required to stop?
I would stop, but the highway is really busy and I would hate to cause a wreck by stopping and then finding out I wasn't supposed to since the bus was not letting students cross the turning and opposing traffic lanes."

I guess I would say do what everybody else does until you know for sure. Really need to ask either the school or law enforcement. I still say it would be illegal for the bus driver to pick up or discharge kids who would have to cross the road in question based upon the rules posted earlier.

My wife drives a bus. I'll ask her later what the rule would be "here".
