My son revealed over the weekend that he has been shopping for an engagement ring/bridal set and I was shocked at the prices he was quoting.  I figured with gold sky high anything decent would be out of sight.  It's the opposite.

I actually looked at the Zales website and, for example, a 1/2 set with 14 carat gold is like $600.  .  Heck, I paid more then that for my wife's set 27 years ago. One carat sets for $1,400. He said one jeweler told him diamonds are depressed right now, which doesn't really make sense with the way metals are trading.

Nobody gets married anymore so rings are hard to sell? I don't know, I'm stumped.
