Neighbor lost the first knee done in the local hospital, then spent 9 months in hospital curing the infection, finally got out with a rigid implant. She's doing much better on the third knee, but 9 months is a long time to be in hospital.

I lost a cousin to staph infection that was working at Mayo. She was on her third (I think) kidney transplant so was very susceptible to infection because of the anti rejection drugs. She was counciling transplant patients and the side effects of the drugs had cost her vision. She got a bad cut in the woods and that got infected.

U of I at Iowa City might be good. I know a friend with a broken arm got poor treatment (virtually none) last winter in Pheonix and not much better locally, it was till flopping around 6 months later. Two trips to Iowa City and he has a useful arm again.
