Subject: RE: No decision to make, as I see it . . .

central - east central Minnesota -

pirlbeck - 11/30/2010 07:12 I am 56 years old and after having almost constant knee pain for the last several years it is getting to the point where I need to have something done. I have been a farm equipment mechanic/shop owner for the last 38 years and all of the time spent on concrete and climbing up and down has taken it's toll on my knees. I have not been to a doctor yet, but I am pretty sure they are both pretty much just worn out. The right one is worse and I will start with that one and have the left one done later, unless the surgeon feels doing them both at the same time would be an option. I am debating whether to have it done at a local (15 miles away) regional hospital or go 4-1/2 hours to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. The local hospital has a orthopedic surgeon that has a pretty good reputation as far as I have heard and I know the local hospital would be a lot more convenient, but I have a daughter that works at the Mayo clinic (pharmacist) and lives in Rochester and I could stay at her place some if needed. As far as the after surgery therapy, I could have that done locally either way. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks! Pat

It'd be a easy decision for me - Mayo. You have an in - daughter. You have a place to stay - daughter and you will have the best care in the WORLD! You don't just work with a doctor, you get the whole Mayo team of doctors and specialist working you over. What decisions are there to make?  And be able to visit with daughter. . . .
May as well see if you can get one of their "executive" phisicals while you are there. It shouldn't involve much more testing, since they will run a bunch of test for the knee problem anyway. Good luck.
