NW Ohio | fyi, Kirk Gibson hit a homerun off off Goose Gossage in the final game of the 1984 WS. The manager for San Diego came out to talk to Gossage and Goose talked the manager out of walking Gibson. (first base was open). Sparky yelled to Gibson, "He don't want to walk you". This of course fired up Gibson and he hit the homer. Sparky was a master at getting the most out of his veteran players. For the Tiger organization it has been about a year in which they lost George Kell, Mark Fidrich, Ernie Harwell, and now Sparky. | |
