Hi Mike, The local property taxes are the major part of the collected taxes, If the federal government can get its hands on the schools then all the moneys would follow to them. The other side line is they would control what is taught in the schools also, a win ,win for them.
Not in Alabama. It's up to each state to determine how to fund education. Most of the funding in our state comes from Income, Sales and Use taxes. When the economy tanks, then so does the Education Trust Fund. Only a small percentage (10 mil equivalent) of education funding in Alabama comes from property taxes. The only way to change this would be to re-write our Constitution (in Alabama) which isn't likely to happen.
