| I think the thing that escapes most landlords is the volatility and risk right now. I delivered some corn this fall at $3.18 which was barely break-even, and had some beans sold in the mid 9's. All they are seeing is $6 corn and $12 beans, not realizing the roller coaster it's taken to get here and the increasing costs of putting in a crop, plus the possibility it could still slip away. I want to be fair to my landlords, but, I also don't want to hamstring myself for the next 5 years over 1 good year. As you suggest, I'm going to offer a bonus for this year, keep the base rent steady, and then openly reevaluate next year. | |
