When you are a member of a school board or any other public board, ANYTHING YOU SAY is public. Your comments, while maybe meant to be off the record or personal can be used against you and the rest of the board. Irresponsible comments can cause major problems and make it difficult for the board to govern effectively. As a member of a school board I have a personal policy against commenting or discussing school issues on the internet because I feel I can communicate my position better on the phone, or even better in person. I don't even discuss school issues on private email with other board members, because nothing is really private and there is a more appropriate way to discuss issues.. Open door laws can be violated inadvertently. By the way, not all school boards in the US are elected, some are appointed by other elected bodies. Bob
