Colo, IA | I am a second generation purebred Gelbvieh cattle raiser. My dad has been raising them since 1971 when they were first imported from Germany. In Germany they are a dual purpose bred for both milk and meat. They are likely the most maternal beef breed in the US. Because of the milking background they are also one of the most docile beef breeds to work with. Most of our bulls go to Angus cross cows and they work great there. We also have some go to Hereford cows where they add milk to the daughters. I would not raise any other breed after having some commercial cattle experience. | |
