and I might be losing sight of the big picture, but

The US has accumulated massive debt that has to be repaid somehow/sometime! Taxes will be going up significantly at some point.

Can someone please tell me why anyone should attempt to defer income to next year instead of taking as much as possible this year? In other words, should all grain be sold by the end of 2010?

If I'm still bullish grain, I can take ownership via futures, right? Lack of carry and huge interest costs on current grain value (i.e. could pay down operating money) doesn't make it feasible to own much grain into 2011 anyway.

Enlighten me
