I agree with your point here.  Much easier to start out easy on the tech lessons, in a non-threatening setting.  The difference here might be that the folks you were teaching *wanted* to learn about computers.  If mennoboy's dad doesn't have a desire to learn the technology, it will be very difficult to force him to learn it, no matter how it's presented.   And I do beg to differ on one point...........if Dad doesn't want to learn it, he and his son won't both have fun doing it together.  Trust me.
