Subject: If you really want to know what FARM AID is all about...

Hey guys,

If you really want to know what FARM AID is all about I recommend that you check out the website:

http://www.farmaid.org/

here are a few snippets from the site:

Some people assume Farm Aid provides large grants and loans directly to farmers. In fact, we can't and never have. Our incorporation with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) prevents us from making grants or loans to any for-profit business, including farms. Instead, we fund farm support organizations of many kinds as part of our nation-wide, ever-expanding Resource Network. We can connect you to direct services of many kinds, including:

* financial and credit counseling
* legal advice
* technical assistance
* sustainable and organic transition support
* new farmer support
* disaster and emergency services

***********************************

The Farmer Resource Network connects you to more than 500 organizations developing innovative approaches to producing, processing and marketing food from family farms. We're here to share our stories about successful farm operations and connect you to people with ideas to diversify and strengthen your farm.

***********************************

FARM AID probably doesn't have a lot to offer large commodity producers... their focus is on value added opportunities for smaller producers.

There are ~ 70,000 farms in IL but only about 10% of these are over 1000 acres... FARM AID is just one of many organizations aimed at increasing the viability of the other 90%.... I guess they're all wasting their time... a few thousands BTOs could get the job done in IL... don't you think :->?
