Panhandle of Ne. | We "normally" don't have time in the fall before winter sets in to apply fert. We rotate beets and corn and soil sample every year. We have to be very careful on next year's beet ground with application of N as to much will grow a lot of foliage and a larger beet, but the sugar content will be lower. Starting a couple of years ago, the beet co. started really pushing the quality issue, more sugar content, more than they ever have. Thus, we end up sidedressing N during the summer after doing tissue samples and sometimes doing mid-summer soil samples. When we farmed in W. Tx., we used to do quite a lot of fall application and would really like to be able to do it here. | |
