| We saw this kind of change come over my Mother, who really was a kind woman who wouldn't say squat if she had a mouth full, or ever use bad language in any company including family.
In later years we'd walk up to their door and just hear her berating my Father who really was one of the major butt heads of the human race, and even I didn't think he deserved that kind of beat down. It ended up being a combination of or any one of 3 things that brought this on. Her medicines, her blood sugar, or the onset of Alzheimers.
She would usually reserve her tirades for times when they were alone, but on occasions would let loose when I, or any of us kids were there. The only thing that seemed to help was if I would just kind of come down hard on her and make her stop. It never lasted long.
Good luck to your neighbor maybe finding a cause for this behavior.
Good on ya for talking it out with him, but it'll still be hard for his hand to deal with that situation no matter what the cause.
