Along the lines that PB was taking, I have cut some welds loose using a large welding tip. The fuel setting will dictate how fast it will heat but the oxygen setting is the real work horse here. Really oxidize the flame, to the point where it is almost to extinguish itself. It will be quite noisey. The excessive oxygen will wash the slag away. Depending on the project size, it can be tedious but with a little practice there won't be much grinding. I prefer to use this method to remove bearings from shafts. With a little care you can see the race wash away and leave the shaft intact. Takes more time than a cutting tip but I rarely gouge a shaft any more. | |
