The local Memphis news channels have been covering this story pretty well. All 3 major nightly news reported that the family hadn't paid his fire association dues since 1990 or 1991, whenever the first year was that they annual dues were initiated. You get what you pay for and they are learning that now.
My family is a member of a "life flight" medivac helicopter service here. Yearly dues and if something bad happens when you need help, the chopper lands in your yard or field and hauls you away. If your neighbor isn't a member he waits for the ambulance.. When minutes count its worth the yearly dues.
