Our fire dept send out letters each year asking for membership donations. Any amount is appreciated.
One thing about when the dues are paid. If a paid up member who has also taken the fire fighter training course is hurt during a fire he is supposed to be covered under the county's workmans comp.
IMO, it's nice to stay as volunteer as possible with minimal governmental funding or interference. A certain amount is necessary, but generally the less government is involved in any venture the better.
