Brazilton KS | City fire departments here will only respond to a fire outside of their jurisdiction if life is at risk, otherwise they leave it to the departments which serve that area. They have a responsibility to those they serve, not to some freeloader who refused to join the association. In this case, the guy made a conscious decision to provide his own fire protection rather then to join the agreement with the city to provide coverage.
If you have 500 houses and 499 of them pay for the department for ten years, and the last one just says 'screw you, i'll do it myself" and you go ahead and treat him like he actually participated, what does that say to the other 499? You can't just come in after the fact and expect to be carried by everyone else. | |
