I suspect the farmer has alot more to apolgise for, than you or the hired man and I hope he had a more sleepless night than you. John apparently saw his role as helping a friend , more than being just part time help. If the farmer only saw Johm as some sort of part time peon then its time he got a leason in how to treat other people.
Farmers can be so stupid.
