Martin, I'd say exactly like auto insurance. I have a liability policy on my 4 wheeler with State Farm. I have ID cards just like for my licensed vehicles. The way I understand it is I am covered if I am liable while riding off my place or if someone else rides my atv on or off my place. I also have an umbrella liability policy which should take over above and beyond the liability limits of my auto policies.
