it sounds like you did find a good equivalent to the rear wall mounting location. Any place where the cables are down, plastic is facing forward, and the top edge is parallel with axles is equivalent the rear wall location. Because of the mud/dirt isses you mentioned, it seems a lot better than on the floor.
