My oldest book "Feeds and Feeding" has a copyright of 1928 and has a picture of horses and mules working along side a tractor and says: Under present conditions, tractors will only supplement, rather than replace horse or mule labor on most farms. With feed low in price, the horse or mule performs draft more cheaply than the tractor"
