Depending on how the telco does it; some have the filter at the entrance of the premises and the DSL signal runs on a seperate wire to the DSL terminal device (modem as some call it). Others have the DSL and voice signal mixed on every phone run and use a DSL filter at every phone plugin. My telco uses the former, and when the filter went bad, I had no dial tone unless I bypassed the filter, and then I had noisy phone service due to the DSL on the line. Replacing the filter made everything well again. Could be that the strike cooked the filter? Can you find something like the pigtail device in this pic?
