I'm not sure how large a seed you are talking.
In extreme cases, we have placed a shim under the cam to increase the opening height of the finger.
There's a multitude of things one can do, such as slowing down as you suggested, to adding more graphite etc., that can help.
Without knowing more specifics such as the seed size and weight, seed treatment, planter population and speed, etc. i can't give a more specific answer. But slowing down, will definitely help some.
